Do you sometimes feel like you and your spouse need a break from day-to-day married life? Well, that’s what couples retreats and getaways are for!

Retreating away from everyday life allows couples to focus on each other. They don’t have to worry about the kids, work, chores or any other of life’s distractions. Instead, they can spend that time rediscovering why they fell in love with each other in the first place.

Sadly, many couples make the mistake of waiting until they are having serious marital problems to go on a couples retreat. They fail to realize that every marriage, no matter how happy, needs a tune up every now and then. That’s why one of the best times to go on a couple’s retreat is when things are going well.

Why Take Time Away?

You may be thinking that you don’t need to get away in order to spend quality time with your husband or wife; you can just do it at home.

The thing about a getaway/retreat is that it is a shared experience that bonds the two of you. There’s also something special about purposely stepping away from day-to-day life to spend time with your spouse. It lets your partner know that your marriage is at the top of your priority list.

Secondly, retreats are an opportunity for both personal and marital growth. They give couples a chance to talk to a counselor and to learn tools to enrich and strengthen their married life.

Marriage retreats also involve lots of fun activities for couples, which are designed to help them get back to the basics. For instance, you may be asked to make a collage showing how your marriage started and where it is now as a way of reminding yourselves why you fell in love.  Such an activity would be very difficult to do at home when you have other responsibilities demanding your attention.

Marriage, like anything else in life can get monotonous. Couple’s retreats and getaways are a great way to break the monotony of everyday married life and rekindle that spark.
