Spirituality at Home: The Effects on Children
The topic of spirituality within the home is very important – especially to Christian families.
How important is it to you for your children to grow up as spiritual human beings?
Once your children leave home, is it important to you that they become involved in a local faith community group? If so, then consider this research.
According to researchers, children who are most likely to attend church as adults live in homes where bothparents attend regularly & live their faith at home.
This isn’t a major shocker here – but the truth of it needs to be reiterated: Children are more interested in seeing what you do than in what you say.
If religion and spirituality are important to you, then they want to see you model it for them. And, as importantly, they expect to see congruence between your words and actions.
If you’re nice, warm, and friendly with your friends at church, then they expect you to be nice, warm, and friendly at home.
If you are “spiritual” at church, then they expect you to be spiritual at home.
So, what does it mean to be a spiritual leader in your home? Here are a few ideas just to get your thinking started:
Lead out in worship
Take your family to church regularly
Take your kids by the hand and pray for them
Take your spouse by the hand and pray for them, too
Share meals together and pray and thank God for His blessings
Volunteer in a mission project at home or abroad Maybe it’s time to make an assessment of the spiritual health of your home? What can you do in the coming days to improve it?
