Relationship Tips for a Happy Marriage Part 54: Day at the Movies

Do you and your spouse enjoy watching movies? If your answer is yes, consider having a date night movie marathon.

Dates that require dressing up and fine dining often lose their appeal in extreme weather conditions. On rainy or extremely hot days, most of us prefer to be indoors. Fortunately, a trip to the movies requires little dressing up and keeps you indoors.

A Day at the Movies

Pick a movie

The hardest thing about going out to the movies is deciding what you are going to watch. You should both have a say in it especially if your tastes are significantly different. Look at the line up together and make a decision that makes both of you happy.

Also, if you are going to spend a day or evening at the movies, plan to see at least three movies. This will allow you to incorporate both your favorite tastes and genres.

Keep your mood in mind when picking out films. If you have been feeling stressed, do not pick a depressing movie. Pick a comedy or a romantic movie instead to lighten the mood. It’s best to decide what you are going to watch before making your way to the theatre.

Grab Something to Eat

Plan to grab light meal before the movie. It won’t be much of a movie marathon if you have to leave in the middle of the movie to go find something to eat. Stay away from heavy meals since being too full may cause you to fall asleep during the movie.

The meal also gives you the opportunity to have a conversation, something you won’t be able to do once you are in the theatre.

Get to the theatre on time

A restaurant may hold your table if you are 10 minutes late but a movie won’t wait for you. Be there on time so that you have enough time to purchase your tickets, get good seats, grab some popcorn and catch your breath before the movie starts.

Invite other couples

If you enjoy spending time with other married couples, ask them to the movies.  This may require a bit more planning because they should also have a say in the choice of movies but it will all be worth it in the end.

Any married couple that is looking for rainy day date ideas should at least consider a movie date. It doesn’t require too much advance planning and can easily fit into your busy schedules. Try a date night movie the next time you spend time alone with your partner.
