Secrets To A Happy Marriage Part 13: Enjoy Common Interests
Get Busy Living!
It seems to me that many couples stop living somewhere along the line. It’s almost as if they’re “doing life” much the same way people in prison are doing time!
Going to work, crossing things off the to-do list, and punching the marital clock is no way to live.
One of the secrets to a happy marriage is to get busy living!
Stop surviving and start living – start doing life with your spouse. And one of the best ways to do this is to enjoy common interests.
There’s more to life than just existing from day to day. Yes life is demanding – and sometimes very overwhelming. But it is absolutely essential for you and your spouse to live life – experience adventures, create memories.
Do whatever you can to keep from getting trapped in the hypnotic lull of routine. And if you’re stuck, break-free!
What Does Your Spouse Enjoy?
Do you know what interests your spouse?
You don’t have to fall in love with what they love. Just show genuine interest for the things they appreciate and like – and join them in their activities.
Enjoy some sporting events or activities if your spouse is into sports. Or take an art class, or cooking class if that’s what they like – or go on that special trip they’ve wanted to take for so long.
Start living life with your spouse. He or she will reciprocate.
It doesn’t have to be anything major, either. It can be as simple as games with the family or a special meal; savor life.
Do You Know About Their Career?
How much do you know about the work life of your spouse? Do you ever express interest in what they do? Are you aware of their pressures and challenges?
Become a part of their life – support them.
Do You Know What Worries Them?
Here’s a question: Do you know what worries or fears keep your spouse up at night? How well do you really know them? And what can you do to ease their emotional stress?
Do You Know Their Dreams?
What are the passions of your spouse? What makes them feel alive? What have they always dreamed of doing – and is there anyway that you can help them in their pursuit of happiness?
Are You Growing Together?
Many spouses like to read. Others like to write, even if only in journal. Are you reading any books together? Are you growing together? Perhaps you could share something with them that might ignite and inspire their love of writing.
Take an interest in your spouses’ life.
Get to really know them.
Become familiar with their live and everything about them.
Decide to stop existing and start living today to stay madly in love!
