Are you wondering what good health has to do with a happy marriage?

Part of being happily married is being able to have fun, share your hobbies and be adventurous together. To do this, you need to be healthy.

Although you vowed to stand by each other in sickness and in health, it goes without saying that marriage is easier when you both do your best to stay healthy.

Taking care of your body and mind by eating right, getting enough sleep and exercising helps to keep you calm and strong. You are able to handle challenges in your marriage better and enjoy many more years together.

Eat Right Together

If you have gained weight since you got married, you are not alone. Many people gain weight after marriage and then blame it on their partner’s eating habits. Needless to say, staying fit and healthy after marriage is much easier when you are both on the same page about eating right.

Plan your meals and go grocery shopping together at least a week in advance. This way, you don’t have to ask each other “what’s for dinner?” every evening. You will also find that you eat better and healthier with advance preparation.

Secondly, be mindful of how often you eat out. There are many ways to have a happy marriage and spend a romantic evening together besides going out for dinner. For instance, you can decide to take a dance class. You will not only stay fit but also bond over this adventure.

Thirdly, make a commitment to keep each other in check. If you have a hard time saying no to sweet treats, you can both decide to keep them out of your home. It’s harder for you to give in to temptation if you have to go all the way to the store first.

Stay Fit Together

Staying fit isn’t easy but it helps if your partner is there to motivate you. Begin by identifying couple’s workout activities that you both enjoy; these could be anything including sports, walking and hiking.

Once you have a list of favourite workout activities at hand, schedule your workouts on your calendar just like you would with any other important engagement. Be sure to include a weekend workout in your calendar. This is important because it’s often hardest to stay on track during the weekends.

Don’t be too ambitious to get started on your workout especially if you have been pretty much sedentary for a long time. Begin by taking short 10 minute walks before moving on to a full blown workout; be patient.

Finally, set some goals and compete against one another if you like. This can be really useful if you are trying to get in shape.

Planning healthy meals and working out with your partner can help you bond because you are working on a common goal. You are also more likely to stick to a healthy lifestyle if you have your partner encouraging you.

How long has it been since you took a walk around the block with your spouse? Try it today and enjoy staying and bonding for a happy marriage.
